What makes Xanga exciting?
I keep hearing how Xanga has become a wasteland. And I wonder what is it that people feel is missing. I know I miss certain people who used to frequent the site but there are always new ones to be discovered. Personally I feel the site has become less sex oriented. There used gto be more posting of provocative pictures and videos. But I doubt that is what people miss. Am I wrong? If you can try to be specific in your answers. Do you miss particular kinds of posts (clever, rants, funny, meaningful)? Or particular kinds of people? Are there new Xanga features which you feel have contributed (recommending comments, top blogs, etc.).

I have wondered this, too. Everyone says it has changed, but being new I am not sure what it changed from.
I don’t think it’s becoming a wasteland, and I’ve been here for seven years. Maybe people think it’s becoming a wasteland due to the growing numbers of trolls here and are discouraged to come here? I don’t know.
I don’t care for popularity here so I visit this site regularly no matter if it’s the #1 blogging platform or if no one else is here.

It’s nowhere a wasteland. This is one of the best places where I found almost half of my best friends (: (: (:
I’m not too sure even. I myself decided to reduce my time spent on Xanga for various other reasons. Maybe they thought it’s time for a change?
I see this place more similar to a gated community than a wasteland.
I think the troll stuff has discouraged people but I’ve noticed there is less drama than in years past and I think people mistake constant drama for excitement.
Since I am still quite new (almost 7 months) there is no way to know what is missing. I enjoy the site as I’ve come to know it and think it may have to do with my own personal view of what’s taking place.
If I want politics (which I don’t) there is more than enough to go around. If I want a little sinfully sexy sensuality, I know where to look to get my heart racing. If it’s laughter I’m after, there is a great deal of that as well. And there is always much to learn in the land of Xanga.
For me, it is a great place to relax, unwind, voice my thoughts and “if God be willing and the creek don’t rise” perhaps make a friend or two. No expectations. Just going with the flow and enjoying my time here…

On a serious note this is a good post. It’s nice to hear someone putting a positive spin on the place for once.
I think almost every post I have ever read about xanga dying was not really about xanga dying. It was written by someone that had friends leave xanga so at that time, they note that xanga has reduced in traffic. But at the heart of their concern, is that special friend or friends that are gone.
Xanga keeps evolving as new people come in. Top blogs brings people together and gives exposure to new bloggers.
I’m pretty happy with xanga. Or, at least, the way I use xanga.

there used to be sex on xanga? i like it just fine here. i’ve been sad when people i liked left, but there is still plenty here to keep my attention.

@TheTheologiansCafe - does it really matter what inspires the writing of a story once it’s discovered that story is actually true? I’ve never known a story to be any less accurate simply by virtue of the fact that the person writing it had a personal motivation to do so.
I like Xanga and I hope it’s around for a long time. I agree with @MyHomeIsWriting - I do get out of it what I put into it
I just posted a provocative post the other day, lol.
I don’t think it’s really dying. I just think that there are a lot of people that aren’t here anymore that many of us miss.
