  • Progress in China

When an old couple refused to sell their house to the government so that they could build a road, the Chinese government built the road around their house.  The elderly couple says the remuneration offered was insufficient to rebuild somewhere else.

  • I saw this (NZ news broadcast).  Had a laugh and say ‘Good on them, when interviewed, they’re happy enough.
If Govenment wont budge to giving them what they want or buying them a new place to live, why not stay where you are.  Despite all odds, they stand erect and undefeated  lol

  • @spshelfriend - It’s interesting because the the US we would take the house whether they were happy or not with the offer and then they could sue for years. In China where we think of the government as more autocratic they gave in.  I’m glad they’re happy but I’ll bet their careful crossing the street.

  • @RushmoreJ -  ha,ha agree.  Apparently the husband i think it was, that said he had lived there most of his life.
Lets hope he has many more years of enjoyment ahead or could put to the government that they to invest in a road bridge, make it easier for the officials to visit without being hit  besides the owners need  to stop traffic.  Hmm, or traffic lights! Could even arrange personal door to door service with a local taxi, for the elderly couple that live there, now that would be nice
